Drive Nice Poster

This was created quite a while ago for a school project. One of our assignments was to produce a video for the school’s annual film festival, either individually or as a group. My group decided to enter a PSA we had created earlier as an entry for a local contest about the dangers of driving while texting. The next assignment was to create individual posters for the video we submitted. This is what I designed.

The background was created using the grunge brushes I created along with a few filters. The title text was edited by using splatter brushes and the wind filter. The phone is my phone, taken by a classmate. The whole thing was put together using Indesign, though for web use, I recreated the image in Photoshop.

Summer Natsu

Alright, this month, I decided to try something new. Instead of working in the Adobe programs I am comfortable in, I thought to do something I’ve never done before: create a composition in Cinema 4d. I have to say, I think I learned quite a bit in this simple project. It just goes to show you that stepping outside your comfort zone will lead to extraordinary things.

The project in this case was to use the kanji (Chinese character) for summer (natsu in Japanese) in a composition. My idea was to place the character in a field of flowers with summer-esque lighting. Because I have never done any compositions in Cinema 4d before, this project was both frustrating and fun. I can’t wait to see what I’ll do next.

Playing card designs – 9

For a project I did a while ago, I had to design a set of playing cards for a specific number. The number I chose was nine. Use the following as inspiration for your own playing cards or any other project you are working on.

Saber by the Lake

Produced by boredom.

I was browsing through DeviantART and found some tips for photomanipulation, so I took an extraction of an anime character, found a few stocks, and created some art.

Much thanks to Serated (from YinYangAnime.com and Animeforum.com) for the Saber extract.
Thanks also to LostandTaken.com and Sixrevisions.com for providing the free textures that were used.

Scanline Text Effect

Followed a tutorial awhile ago. I like this effect. I may use it later for something.

Hawk DVD Cover

Our last project in Graphic Design. It was collaborative, I designed the DVD cover and my partner designed the poster. I liked how this turned out. I did many techniques that I had never tried before, such as manipulating the background and using a filter on it. The background was created in Photoshop, the character was created in Illustrator, manipulated in Photoshop, and the text was added in Illustrator.

Smudges Magazine Cover

One of my projects that I’m really proud of is a cover for a magazine in my school. Sadly, mine wasn’t chosen, but the ones that were are both really good. I’m glad for those two people.

Some text is removed though, for privacy reasons.

Fleetwood Mac Mock Poster

In graphic design class, we had to create posters for different concerts. I was assigned Fleetwood Mac Unleashed. Because of the word “unleashed,” I thought that one of my previously created fractals from Apophysis would be a perfect focal. Other than that, everything else was done in Illustrator.
